What brought you to CASL?

My journey with CASL started when I was seeking to build a “tribe” of others who could understand the

course that I was on with my son who has dyslexia. After several years of advocating for my son, I came

to the realization that my heart strings were pulling me to help other children who struggle with reading

through a more organized approach.

Educational Background

Master’s from Roberts Wesleyan College in Strategic Leadership

Bachelor’s from St. John Fisher College in Biology

Personal Connection to Struggling Learners

My son has been formally labeled as a 2e child. He is considered twice exceptional because he is gifted

in certain areas, yet also has a learning disability. Our journey has been one best described as a roller

coaster with many ups and downs, however the timeframe of this ride is a lifetime as opposed to just a

few short minutes. Navigating the world of special education in the school system has proven to be a

skill set that requires great diligence. As our school systems stand today the two most important

resources a parent must have when trying to raise a child with a learning disability are time and money.

My hope is that through mindful advocacy CASL will be able to breakdown some of those barriers for

children in our community.
